If you need to improve your presentation skills, reduce your nervousness and learn in an atmosphere of fun and fellowship,
South County Toastmasters is your solution.
Toastmasters is the world's largest organization
devoted to improving communication and leadership skills for all men and women. 800,000 members worldwide use Toastmasters as a vehicle for self-improvement.
You will find that South County Toastmasters are friendly men and women from a wide range of occupations who are committed to improving their own speaking skills and to helping others be better communicators too.
The Toastmasters way is to "Learn by Doing." By participating in club meetings, we improve our listening, thinking and speaking skills, while building self-confidence. You will receive the benefits of being a Toastmaster only if you participate fully in meetings. Learn by doing means that we strive to do our best at our meetings
South County has been recognized repeatedly as one of the organization's best clubs by Toastmasters International. Our members have won numerous area, division and district speech contests.
We are proud of our club and would like to tell you more about our specific club's history.
South County Toastmasters was chartered October 6, 1975. Since then, it has established an enviable record of achievement including:
- President's Top 10 club in District 8 for twelve of the last fifteen years.
- Achieved President's Select Club status every year since 1977.
- 2nd best Toastmaster club in the world in 1995-96 (out of 8000)
- Judged 5th best club in the WORLD for year 1992-1993.
In addition, club members have won numerous speech contests at area and district levels. In 2001, one of our members won the regional International Speech Contest that placed her in the top eight speakers-out of 180,000-of Toastmasters worldwide. This member went on to compete in the World Championship of Public Speaking, the first local resident to compete in the global event in 15 years.
We have held and continue to hold numerous offices in the area and district. Additionally, we are consistently one of the largest clubs in District 8. This is important for a number of reasons, such as:
- Provides for a great forum to practice in front of a group.
- Allows for positive feedback and direction for future improvement from a variety of members.
- Gives members a chance to learn from the style and experience of a wide array of club participants.
Best of all, South County Toastmasters is fun. You'll be surprised how quickly time passes as you will be thoroughly entertained. In addition you'll learn to improve listening, thinking and speaking skills. And, your self-confidence will soar with development through the club.

14 COMPLETE PUBLIC SPEAKING WORKSHOP
Fourteen area residents completed a public speaking workshop sponsored by the South County Toastmasters Club.
The eight-session program, which ended Wednesday, April 25th, helped participants overcome their nervousness when speaking before an audience, to prepare and present speeches, to handle impromptu speaking situations, and to listen carefully and critically to others. During the last session, participants were presented with a certificate of completion by co-coordinators Jack Bettag, Carl Hendrickson and Jim Ruzicka and Club President Bill Collier.
Pictured are Gina Willard, John Judd, Dan Reuter, Rich Ullrich, Rachael Nobels, Judy Sowers, Kevin Wilson, Patricia O’Shea, Paul Kohler, and Saralou Hendrickson. Not present at the graduation were Tracey Bruce, Alicia Flamm, Robert Hickman, and Linda Lipa.

MEETUP SITE
I set up a South County Toastmasters group on a website called Meetup.com. Another organization I'm in has had a lot of success using it for recruitment, and also as a way to keep track of who will be at meetings. So I thought we could try it out for Toastmasters, just as an addition to our normal procedures. If you want to check it out, go to the address elow, create a login, and then you will see other members and meetings. Let me know what you think. -- Karl Beck
